In Sarteano, it is possible to visit at least eight churches in an enchanting and short route, easily accessible (not like the famous circuit of the seven churches, as the popular saying goes…). Leaving the historic center, on the Porta Umbra side, you will immediately encounter the deconsecrated Church of Santa Vittoria, dating back to the 13th century. Continuing towards the cemetery, you will find the Chapel of Madonna dell’Uccellino, the Church of the Portoncino, the Church of Madonna del Mal di Capo, and the Church of the Spiagge, semi-ruined with 16th-century frescoes, mostly deteriorated. In contrast, the Romanesque Church of the Holy Trinity, dating back to 1085, has been well preserved and is an integral part of the Abbey of Spineta, as is the Church of Sant’Andrea in Castiglioncello del Trinoro, also from the 11th century, which preserves a precious blend of medieval style, chapels, and paintings. Unfortunately, the Church and Convent of the Capuchins, or Romitorio (1485), are in total decay.
