Fonte Vetriana: History, Nature, and Extraordinary Landscapes at the Foot of Mount Cetona

Just beyond Spineta, along the road leading to Radicofani, lies the charming village of Fonte Vetriana. The toponym, dating back to the Middle Ages, was used to identify places associated with the presence of water, a vital resource for the communities of that time. Fonte Vetriana was a frequent stopping point, as it was located along a branch that connected the Via Francigena with the Teutonic Way, a stretch that also explains the presence of a large abbey in the surrounding area.

Today, the village retains traces of ancient shelters and evidence of prehistoric settlements, underscoring its historical and cultural significance. Additionally, from here, numerous routes of naturalistic, botanical, and geological interest depart, leading to the summit of Mount Cetona, offering breathtaking views and the opportunity to explore a region rich in biodiversity.

The village of Fonte Vetriana, nestled at the foot of the mountain, offers a spectacular view of the Radicofani fortress, Mount Amiata, and the Val d’Orcia, creating a unique environment where history and nature harmoniously blend. Just a short distance away is Casa Bebi, a small and welcoming settlement offering hospitality, located precisely at the point where the Orcia River, one of Tuscany’s most iconic rivers, begins.
